Tyler Owens is a storm chaser and the leader of the Tornado Wranglers. Tyler was portrayed by Glen Powell in the 2024 film, Twisters.
Biography[]
Tyler Owens is a renowned YouTube storm chaser known as the “Tornado Wrangler.” He once worked as a rodeo cowboy but later became a meteorologist. In the film’s present, Tyler and his team work alongside Kate and Javi in Oklahoma, where they face severe tornadoes.
Tyler first appears at a wind farm where he and his crew, including Boone, Lily, Dexter, and Dani. They chase after the tornado and film the whole thing. He and his team even shoot off fireworks into the tornado.
When helping with local rescue efforts in a town that was affected, Tyler indicates that Kate should look more into the company she's supporting, implying that their investors are up to no good.
Later, Tyler invites Kate to a rodeo, where he reveals he once worked as a rodeo cowboy before becoming a meteorologist. She tells him that she grew up on a farm in Oklahoma and they start to bond about their passions. During a subsequent tornado, Tyler and Kate take shelter in an empty pool after helping locals get to safety. While some die, they survive.
Tyler later follows Kate to her home in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, where he meets her mother and stays the night. He learns about her previous experiment and helps her work on it to see if it can actually work. They test it on a nearby tornado but it's unsuccessful so they adjust their plan to try again.
Kate joins Tyler's team to track down another tornado and try the experiment one more time. However, once they find out that it's going to hit the town El Reno, Tyler, Kate, and the team work to evacuate residents. Tyler’s leg is trapped by debris from a crashed train, but Kate and Javi rescue him. Tyler saves his teammate, Lily, and helps save Kate after she gets overturned in a truck.
At the end, Tyler asks Kate when she's coming back to Oklahoma and she leaves it open ended. She plans to return to New York. Outside the airport, Tyler sits in his car and suddenly decides to chase after her. When flights are delayed due to strong winds, they both smile at each other and walk out.

- There is a deleted scene from the ending of the movie wherein Kate and Tyler kiss but it was ultimately cut due to the director wanting the story to be more focused on Kate and her journey of healing and getting back to what she loved doing as opposed to a romance story.
- Tyler's backstory based on actors real life, Glen Powell, he was in an F5 tornado with his aunt and cousins in 1997, the tornado that hit Jarrell, Texas, in May 1997. Sadly, the tornado that went through the town. ended up killing 27 people, making it one of the deadliest tornado events in Texas' history.
